HOW AND WHY DO YOU THINK BOLLYWOOD HAS BECOME SO POPULAR OUTSIDE OF INDIA?

Hey guys, inspired from Tahmina's discussion, was just wondering what you guys think about this, since many of us do live outside of India...I was wanting to know how you first discovered Bollywood movies and what you about it so much!
How do you think Bollywood gets the international audience interested? Is it the locations? The westernised look? (girls wearing shorter clothes and men showing off their body) or the modern storylines e.g. teen pregnancies etc.........Would love to know your views! And anyone who helps gets an added bonus by getting their name put into my list of 'thank you's because this will help with my dissertation project! Thank you for your opinions =] GET DISCUSSING PEEPS!

Permalink Reply by RoShAn AcHiLlEs on November 3, 2009 at 3:30am: Its because Indian cinema is becoming increasingly westernized .indian movie tend to be masala melodramatic & sentimental ,but may also features romance,comedy,action,suspense, & other generic elements .The singing/dancing added to the story simply makes the movie a more rounded entertainment.Bollywood movies is filled with rich indian culture values also .In bollywood its mostly hindi with little bits of English , and i think bollywood shows a lot more emotion than Hollywood. Another difference is that religion can play an important role in Bollywood movies we can find all kind of religion and religious value too. Bollywood have more scope,they can get good store form down south indan movie (Kollywood, Tollywood, Malluwood) which have already been a big hit. Unfortunately, nowadays, we don't have that "Indianism" in Bollywood movies. Earlier, when I was small,every movie was a representation of Indian society and culture,But now its copying all westernized kind of stuff & Also I feel hollywood is technical better than bollywood!!!!; ▶ Reply to This
